Aims & Objectives Why? • Recap prior learning of areas covered so far for TV Drama. • Explain and establish some of the stereotypes surrounding the maleand femalegender roles. • Establish whether these stereotypes are presented in a sequence you have watched for deconstructing the representation of Gender. • Complete a brief textual analysis of the sequence and write about a Technical feature of your choice from the sequence. • Review the learning. So you are aware of the expectations for the Exam on May 13thfor Section A (50 Marks)

It is under the page Useful Links – AS and Section A: TV DRAMA TEXTUAL ANALYSIS (50 Marks) – Resources This details the examples YOU MUST be prepared to use when addressing the area of representation.

  4. Stereotypes surrounding the maleand femalegender roles In your exercise books, YOU MUST spend the next 3 minutes coming up with as many stereotypes as you can for EACH of the gender roles. YOU SHOULD be prepared to feedback your understanding to the rest of the class

FEEDBACK • Stereotypes - Male gender – ‘Acts’, Powerful, dominant, courageous, heroic, brave, wise, determined, alpha-male, confident, arrogant, dismissive towards the female gender, admirable, chauvinistic, athletic, strong, humorous. • Anti-stereotypes or binary opposites Male gender – • Weak, submissive, cold, emasculated by the opposite sex, ‘appears’ • Stereotypes – Female gender – ‘Appears’, submissive, objectified, overtly sexual, manipulative, “femme fatale”, weak, desires affection/comfort, unable to cope, emotionally unstable, damsel in distress, lacks confidence. • Anti-stereotypes or binary opposites Femalegender – • Dominant, brutal, cold hearted, lacks emotional attachment, controlling of the opposite sex

  6. Exam tip if you are worried about time management Viewing 1 – NO NOTES but “mentally plan” your answer and the examples you think are relevant to the area of representation you need to address. Viewing 2 – Make notes and identify 1-2 examples for EACH technical feature (2-3 minutes in between – Continue making notes!) Viewing 3 – Continue making notes, specifically on areas you are light on (2-3 minutes in between – FINALISE making notes!) Viewing 4 – Use this time to consolidate your note making by planning and starting your answer!

Unit G322: Key Concepts (TV Drama) Main Task – 20 Minutes The Hustle - Gender YOU MUST choose ONE of the technical areas above and make notes on HOW it represents some of the stereotypes surrounding BOTH gender roles OR subverts/challenges them. YOU SHOULD then use the notes to write a paragraph in an exam format in timed conditions. Follow the PEA structure and give at least 2-3 examples from the technical feature. YOU COULD be asked to feedback to the rest of the class!

  9. Use your notes to write 2-3 PEA paragraphs on the representation of Gender from the extract from ‘The Hustle’. E – For example, the use of a name example connotes how the audience understand this representation as being stereotypical because… A – Therefore the name of gender gender is seen by the audience to represented as…. You have 11 minutes to write your PEA paragraphs
