  2. Why do I need note cards? Note cards are used to record information for your research that you found in your sources. They help by: • Allowing you to organize your information • Ensuring you don’t have redundant information • Preventing plagiarism

  3. There are three ways to take notes… • Paraphrase • Summary • Direct Quotation

  4. Paraphrase • Is a RESTATEMENT of information in YOUR OWN words

  5. Summary • A brief synthesis (summary) of a long passage containing only main ideas and key supporting information.

  6. Direct Quotation • Is the EXACT wording of a source, set off with quotation marks.

  7. Remember… • Use 3x5 index cards (2 pks/$1.00 at Dollar Tree) • You must have 30 cards • Your SOURCE number must be in the UPPER RIGHT-HAND corner.
