NAC College Planning Night Our objective: To outline the sequence of events so that, at the end of your son/daughter’s senior year they are prepared to attend and succeed as a college freshman
NAC College planning night Sept / October • Review list of college choices with your son/daughter a rule of three or five works best • Arrange a visit or attend a open house at the colleges you chose if you haven’t already, • Register for SAT/SATII and/or ACT/ACT Writing, (deadlines are Oct 5 and Nov 2for SAT and Nov 2. for ACT) • Submit NCAA Eligibility Application if playing sports at a Division I or II sports program
NAC College planning night Sept / October • Begin Scholarship Application Process, go to www.nacs1.org, for a list of scholarships and applications are available in guidance • Begin soliciting recommendation letters from teachers for colleges and scholarships • Complete the CSS/Financial aid profile if the school you are applying to is a school that requires it
NAC College planning night Sept / October • Begin writing your college essay and have it edited by someone else before you submit it • Complete early decision or early action applications • Set up accounts on application websites, such as www.SUNY.edu/student or www.commonapp.org
NAC College planning night October-November • Submit FAFSA in October to colleges you applied to, some colleges have a priority deadlines for the most needy students check college financial aid websites for more information.
NAC College planning night November • Review early decision/early action deadlines and submit on time • All 4 year SUNY schools require a SUNY supplemental application and SOAR (SUNY online academic record), check individual schools for their deadlines. The supplemental application is an entrance requirement
NAC College planning night November • Start submitting your applications • Meet with Mr. McAfee and provide him required paperwork to submit official high school transcripts
NAC College planning night November • Submit your ROTC Scholarship application By Nov. 1 • Continue to work on scholarships • Finish application essays and submit • After you submit your FAFSA you need to review and correct your Student Aid Report (SAR) normally sent to you online
NAC College planning night December/January • Submit application by Dec. 14th to ensure meeting Jan. 1 Deadline • Follow up on teacher/community recommendation letters • Continue to look at www.nacs1.org. for updated scholarship information • Early decision results should be returned by mid December
NAC College planning night February • Submit mid year grades to colleges if required • Continue to watch www.nacs1.org for scholarship updates • Check with colleges you have applied to see if they have received all your application materials, letters, transcripts…
NAC College planning night March • Admission decisions should start arriving, follow the school’s instructions on next steps for acceptance and/or submitting deposits • Revisit colleges if your are having trouble making final decisions • DO NOT GET SENIORITIS • Look for a summer job you need the $
NAC College planning night April • Financial Aid award letters start to arrive you need to review the letter • You need to make the college choice decision and make your deposit • Send updated grades to colleges that have not made an acceptance decision • Check www.nacs1.org for scholarship info
NAC College planning night May • Go to www.studentloans.gov and complete entrance counseling and loan applications for federal loans • Finalize housing and meal plans and submit required forms and deposits • Keep your grades up
NAC College planning night June • Finish strong! Colleges will want your final transcript • If you are playing a Division I or II sport colleges will require your final transcript • Students, thank everyone that helped you get to a successful ending • Safely enjoy graduation!
NAC College planning night July/Aug • Contact your new roommate if living on campus • Arrange your school payment plan • Complete your dorm and school shopping • Save $ • Start your packing
