Long-term Energy Policy Review and White Paper: Challenges and Perspectives for UK Energy Policy

The PIU Energy Review, published in February 2002, is a report to the government that examines the long-term challenges for energy policy in the UK over the next 20-50 years. The review considers topics such as climate change, energy supply, competitive markets, innovation, and the international and European context. The accompanying Energy White Paper, to be released around the turn of the year, will present policy proposals. This consultation seeks input on themes including security of supply, transitioning to a low carbon economy, energy efficiency, renewable energy, nuclear power, fossil fuels and carbon sequestration, transportation, and fostering a competitive economy. The review also emphasizes the need for clear and consistent policy, innovation, collaboration with various sectors, and education and skills development.
