BREATHE • Major changes this school year • Things are going to be different • We’re all learning how this works • Be pro-active – ask & learn • Be positive • Especially to parents • You don’t have to like it • But you do have to do it
Reminders • The certified teacher is responsible for the paraprofessional’s work (or non-work) • Document, be sure administration knows, etc. • Paras should not write notes home to parents or call parents – communication is the teacher’s responsibility • Data needs to be collected at least twice a week on IEP objectives – can be done sometimes by para or even the student • Data (assessment) should influence instruction • MOID/SID/PID teachers are expected to use Boardmaker & Classroom Suite – trainings throughout the year or go on websites for video tutorials - ask

All students will receive a High School Diploma • Students with an ACCESS diploma will not be able to go to college or tech schools based on their transcripts. • New rule diploma prevents students with a special education diploma from counting against school AYP as dropouts. • Students who wish to pursue post secondary options need to have general education courses on their transcripts.
High School ACCESS Students Transcripts, Graduation Requirements & Documentation
Graduation Options • Students in HS prior to 2008-2009 ONLY • Under the OLD graduation rule • MOID/SID will receive Life Skills Diploma • MID will receive Employment Prep Diploma • GAA students who entered HS in 2008-2009 or later will receive a HS diploma if they meet all the requirements. • If all requirements are not met, they will receive a special education certificate.
Graduation requirements • Student participated in GAA at least 1 year in middle school – scores must be documented in the IEP • Student completes 23 required carnegie units for ACCESS students • Stays in school until they are 22 OR transition to a work/education/living situation with required supports by agency other than school documented in transition plan of exit IEP.
Transcript Summary • Students who entered HS prior to 2008-2009 must take GAA this year if they have not participated prior. These students are not considered ACCESS students and should have .90 level courses on transcript • Must go into Goalview as Juniors before Oct 1 • All juniors must take either GHGT or GAA
Transcript Courses • Course numbers on the transcript are not aligned to instruction in ACCESS classes. • Instruction should include standards imbedded in meaningful instruction throughout the day, not in isolated courses. • ACCESS courses are not intended to be specific time frames – only place markers on the transcript.
Schedules Course schedule is documentation of enrollment to provide access to the course—the “registrar’s schedule”

Freshmen • Only students who entered high school for the first time this school year (2010-2011) • Must have required ACCESS courses on transcript this year • 9th grade lit • Math 1 • US History (World Geography is an elective) • Biology • 1 PE – No ACCESS to Personal Fitness/Heath at this time • AdPE can count as a course if it is put on transcript as a course
Sophomores • All students who entered HS for the first time last year (2009-2010) are considered sophomores • Must have the required ACCESS courses on their transcript this year • 9th & 10th grade lit • Math 1 & Math 2 • Biology & Physical Science • US History and either World History or Gov/Econ
Juniors • Students who entered HS for the first time in 2008-2009 • Must participate in and pass GAA • Will retake any portions that do not pass • Reflects on school AYP just like the GHGT • Must have ACCESS COURSES • 9th & 10th grade Lit & American Lit • Math 1 & Math 2 & Math 3 • US History & World History & Gov/Econ (World Geography is an elective for ACCESS students) • Biology & Physical Science & Environmental Science • Put in direct link to law here
Case manager is responsible for making sure the student transcript is correct. • Copy of last year’s transcript should be in the front of the student’s ACCESS documentation notebook. • Each year the new transcript should be added to the front of the ACCES notebook.
Students must pass ACCESS courses. • ACCESS courses are designed to provide access to the curricuum for students with significant cognitive disabilities. • It should be an individualized program providing for differentiated instruction to insure the student passes. • Pinnacle score should be designated as 100% participation and only 1 score has to go in each grading period – (80-89)

2011 GAA • Blueprint on-line • Aligned to courses now - • Math 1 and Math 2 instead of just Algebra, Geometry, etc. • Most of the ones used previously are there, just under a different number/course • This year, students must PASS • Will retake any sections not passed, the next year under same guidelines • Students cannot go to transition academy until all sections of GAA are passed

Passing to 12th grade • Students will automatically pass to 12th grade after their Junior year • GAA scores do not determine pass/fail • They should continue to earn the appropriate Carnegie units as a senior • Students will remain Seniors until they pass all GAA sections.
