Module 1: Team Building • Is the process of enabling the group of people to reach their goal • Process of making team effective is called ‘Team Building’

Teamwork: 1 Exercise Task: • Find Your Team Members as per instructions given by the trainer, Introduce each other, Choose The Leader & Give your team a name with a punch line. Time: • 5 minutes for the task & 2 minute for presentation Presentation: • Group Leader to introduce the Team name and team members.
Why Teams? • For better results through combined knowledge & skills. • Significant challenges energize the team. • Leaders can foster team performance. • Biases towards individualism. • To have discipline in the organization.

Stages in Team Building Forming Storming Norming Performing
FORMING • Define team • Determine individual roles • Develop trust and communication • Develop norms • Define problem and strategy • Identify information needed
STORMING • During the Storming stage team members: • 1. Realize that the task is more difficult than they imagined; • 2. Have fluctuations in attitude about chances of success; • 3. May be resistant to the task; and, • 4. Have poor collaboration
NORMING • During this stage members accept: • their team; • team rules and procedures; • their roles in the team; and, • the individuality of fellow members.
PERFORMING • NOW Team members have: • Gained insight into personal and team processes; • A better understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses; • Gained the ability to prevent or work through group conflict and resolve differences; and, • Developed a close attachment to the team.

Teamwork: 2 PaperTower Project Task: • A Paper tower is to be built by each team as per given set of rules and resources by the trainer. Time: • 25 minutes to build the tower, 3 Minutes to fill Feedback/Learning form of the project & 2 minutes for presentation. Presentation: • One member from each team to present the learning from the project.
Who is a Team Leader • Contact point for communication between team and management. • Full-fledged team member. • Assists & guides the team. • Implements the changes.

How do Teams Work Best? • Commitment to common objectives; • Defined roles and responsibilities; • Effective decision systems, communication and work procedures; and, • Good personal relationships.
Exercise Roles & Responsibilities in a TEAM Task: • All Participant will read the small story written on the next Slide. Time: • They will discuss the story for 5 minutes within the team and will find out the relevance of the story. Presentation: • One member from each team to present the findings of their team within 1 min.
Everybody, Somebody, Anybody & Nobody This is a story about for people named everybody, somebody, anybody and nobody. There was an important job to be done and everybody was sure that somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it but nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was everybody’s job. Everybody thought anybody could do it but nobody realized that everybody wont do it. It ended up that everybody blamed somebody when nobody did what anybody could have done.

Exercise Communicatingwithinteams Task: • Every participant to fill the Checklist Given by the Trainer on communication within the TEAMS. Time: • 5 minutes to fill, 3 minutes to discuss within the team and 1 minute for presentation. Presentation: • One member from each team to present the findings of their team.
Communication within the team • Listen carefully and responsively • Explaining conversational intent and inviting consent • Explaining clearly and more completely • Translating criticisms and complaints into requests
Conflicts within the TEAM(Few Reasons) • Cultural difference • Difference in opinion • Unclear roles or expectations • Emotional responses to an issue or person • Unequal status • Misunderstanding of the language
Handling conflict : • Running away • Being obliging to the other party • Defeating the other party • Winning a little/ losing a little
