Tribal Journey Rising Action
Directions • On the next slide you will listen to chapter 3 of Tribal Journey. • As you listen to it, think about the rising action. • Ask yourself: • How is this different than the beginning (exposition)? • How is this similar to the exposition? • How does the author create more tension and suspense in this part?
How is this different than the exposition? • We already know about the characters. • We already know the setting. • We already know that Jason needs to be healed. • There is more action. • There are a lot of small problems that are getting solved.
How is this similar to the exposition? • We keep on learning more about the characters. • There are still hints about what will happen later (foreshadowing).
How does the author create more suspense? • The author keeps on creating problems for Jason, but he overcomes them. -Jason wasn’t allowed to go to Ron’s house so he had to figure out a plan. -Jason’s dad attacked his mom, so he had to save her. -Jason, his mom, Shauna, and Zak couldn’t go back to their house, so he called Ron and they stayed at his house. • These problems are making us readers wonder how he will be a star swimmer. If he has all of these issues going on, how will be able to focus and train?
