  1. Cell Organelle Project By: Austin Vorisek Sherry Tanious Kevin Sun Kimberly Peng

  2. Cell Wall Cilia Cell Membrane Flagella Cytoplasm Lysosomes Chloroplasts Nucleus Endoplasmic Reticulum DNA Ribosome Vacuoles Golgi Bodies Mitochondria

  3. Cell Membrane Analogy • The cell membrane of a cell is like the walls of a plane. Next

  4. Cell Membrane Explanation • The cell membrane encloses the organelles just like the inside of the plane walls enclose the passengers, seats, etc. • The cell membrane physically separates the organelle from the dangerous outside environment, like the inside of the plane walls physically separates the people inside from anything outside. Next Back

  5. Cell Wall Analogy • The cell wall of a cell is like the outer layer of a plane. Next

  6. Cell Wall Explanation • The cell wall is rigid and gives the organism definite shape, like the outer wall of a plane is rigid and gives the plane it’s shape. • Cell Walls have holes that allow things in and out, just like planes have doors and windows that let people and luggage in and out. • (only in plant cells) Back Next

  7. Cytoplasm Analogy • The cytoplasm in a cell is like the air in a plane. Next

  8. Cytoplasm Explanation • The cytoplasm fills the cell, just like air on a plane. • The organelles dwell within the cytoplasm, just like the passengers, flight attendants, carts, etc. dwell in the air inside the plane Back Next

  9. Endoplasmic Reticulum Analogy The endoplasmic reticulum of a cell is like the carts on a plane. Next

  10. Endoplasmic Reticulum Explanation • The endoplasmic reticulum transports proteins within the cell, like the way the carts in a plane transports food. Back Next

  11. Ribosomes Analogy • The ribosomes of a cell are like the passengers of a plane. Next

  12. Ribosomes Explanation • The cell needs ribosomes to function, just like a plane needs passengers to function. • Also, ribosomes are scattered throughout the cell, just like passengers are scattered throughout the plane. Back Next

  13. Golgi Bodies Analogy • The Golgi Bodies of a cell are like the flight attendants of a plane. Next

  14. Golgi Bodies Explanation • The golgi bodies of a cell process and package macromolecules, like flight attendants process and package airplane food. Back Next

  15. Chloroplasts Analogy • The chloroplasts in plants cells are like the fuel an airplane uses. Next

  16. Chloroplasts Explanation • Chloroplasts are used to perform photosynthesis in a cell, which gives the cell energy • The fuel in an airplane is burned in order to give power the airplane and allow it to move. Back Next

  17. Mitochondria Analogy • The mitochondria of the cell are like the engines of the plane. Next

  18. Mitochondria Explanation • Mitochondria are the energy producing structures inside cells. They are what lets the cell function and repair and maintain itself. They are known as the powerhouses of the cell. • The engines of a plane are necessary to the plane’s ability to function. They are what powers the plane. Back Next

  19. Nucleus Analogy • The nucleus of the cell is like the cockpit of an airplane. Next

  20. Nucleus Explanation • The nucleus is like the “control center” of a cell, just like how all of the controls for the plane are in the cockpit. • The nucleus has both DNA, just like the pilot of a plane stays in the cockpit. Back Next

  21. Lysosomes Analogy • The lysosomes of the cell are like the bathroom of the airplane. Next

  22. Explanation of Lysosomes • Lysosomes are the disposal systems of a cell, just like a bathroom is the disposal system of the airplane. Back Next

  23. DNA Analogy • The DNA of a cell is like the pilot of plane. Next

  24. DNA Explanation • DNA has all the genetic information in the cell, like the pilot has all the information about the destination of the flight and all the knowledge of how to fly the plane. Back Next

  25. Vacuoles Analogy • The vacuoles of a cell are like the storage compartments of the plane. Storage Compartment Next

  26. Vacuoles Explanation • The vacuoles store all the nutrition in the cell like the storage compartments store all the luggage in the plane. • (large central vacuoles are only found in plant cells) Back Next

  27. Flagella Analogy • The Flagella of a cell is like the wings of an airplane. Next

  28. Flagella Explanation • The Flagella maneuvers the cell like the wings maneuvers the airplane. • The Flagella also extends out of the main body of the cell, just like the wings of an airplane extend outside the main body of the plane. Back Next

  29. Cilia Analogy • The cilia of a cell is like the radar of a plane. Next

  30. Cilia Explanation • The cilia of a cell serves as a sensor system of the cell’s surroundings, just like the cilia of a plane senses it’s surroundings. Back Next
