  5. The Kite Runner: Critical Observations It’s a terrible thing when bad things happen to good people I cannot get over that scene with Assef and Baba at the birthday party for Amir. It’s unbelievable that he would do such a thing. Kite flying in Valley Forge seems far safer than kite fighting in Afghanistan “I brought you here because I am going to ask something of you. I’m going to ask you to do something for me. But before I do, I want to tell you about Hassan. Do you understand?” Baba thinks Amir is a pansy who tries to hide from his own shadow Though Amir immigrates to America, he never truly escapes his past in Kabul Sohrab represents an opportunity for Amir to fix things with Hassan and within himself Amir’s wife gets the shaft in this novel…what happened to her? There is heavy symbolism in that last scene
