Vermont State Offices at National Life Space Planning Research & Precedents
Proposed Typical Floor (Test fit plan showing “generic” 6’x7’ workstations)
Existing Typical Floor (Narrow aisles, no sight lines to windows)
(From a Federal GSA survey of 24,000 government employees transitioning from high-wall cubicles to an open plan)
Creating a functional Open Space Plan • Maintain views and provide adequate open space • Avoid partitions, offices, etc. against windows to enhance air circulation and maintain view access for all • Provide acoustically absorbent/ dissapative materials on floor, ceilings, partitions • Implement “white noise” systems • More meeting spaces and “focus rooms” • Design to accommodate distractions- for example, provide queuing spaces outside of meeting rooms • Accommodate different work styles through design
A workstation similar to “Option 3” installed in a state office space in Massachusetts- which is also transitioning to an open office plan with similar standards to Vermont.
