Section 2 Need for Reform- What is Reform? James Hogg was determined to Reform the RR. Railroad companies often followed unfair practices in dealing with passengers and business(in order to make more money for the railroad company).
Fight Against Unfair Policies – James Hogg • Railroad companies charged high prices for short distance hauls rather than long distance hauls, and they gave deals to preferred customers. Hogg – Cleaning Up Insurance Corruption • He also served as District Attorney , as the state's Attorney General and Governor of Texas. • He cleaned up the injustices done by the insurance companies that weren't following the laws of Texas.
Hogg on the Attack – Attack of the Railroad • . He set out to break up the Texas Traffic Association (TTA), a railroad trust. Hogg argued that the TTA had unfairly worked together to establish high prices for customers, and that the organization created an unfair monopoly in the railroad industry. Hogg also led the fight for an anti-trust law, which made monopolies illegal. • He set up the Texas Railroad Commission to keep order.
