Maritime Education through Distributed Networked Simulators by John Koch Nielsen Danish Maritime Institute www.danmar.dk
Partners: • Mariehamn Maritime Academy (FI) • RISØ National Laboratory (DK) • Danish Maritime Institute (DK)
Objectives • To develop course concepts and • technologies supporting distributed networked simulation • enabling education in ship-handling, communication and co-operation
Definition of course concepts: • Pedagogical set-up • Scenarios • Instructor tools • Replay tools • Debriefing tools
Search and Rescue (SAR) Training of On-scene-commander, search vessel navigators and shore-based command centre personel in shiphandling, communication and co-operation
Network interface • Development of generic HLA based interface to the Network • Specification and assessment of tools for integration of voice- and video- signals into the distributed simulation envirronment
Requirements to Network Main requirements: During simulation: Response Time During debriefing: Bandwidth
Demonstration • Two geographically separated simulators (at Mariehamn and Danish Maritime Institute) will be networked and a number of training scenarios including SAR training will be demonstrated
Training levels • CBI - Knowledge • Part Task - Rules • Full Mission - Skills
