Persistence Does Pay Off Success of the T. F. Green CNG Station Brenda L. Pope, CHMM, REM, VP July 21, 2008 Ocean State Clean Cities Coalition 10th Anniversary Celebration
Why CNG? • Reduction in air emissions • 2005 Executive Order by Governor Carcieri
Project Timeline • January 2002 – RIAC issues RFP for design and installation. • February 2002 - RIAC selects AVSG. • June 2005 - RIAC entered into agreement with AVSG.
May 22, 2006 RIAC opens State’s first public-use CNG station
CNG • CNG meets the tightest environmental restrictions with around 20% lower CO2. • Using CNG from bio-methane means that zero CO2 transportation is now available. • Substitute for gasoline (petrol), diesel, or propane fuel. • Environmentally "clean" alternative and it is much safer than other motor fuels in the event of a fuel spill. • Methane (CH4), to less than 1% of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure.
