What is Title I? The purpose of Title I under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. • Title I is the largest federal assistance program for our nation’s schools. • Schools with 40% or more of children from low income families can develop school wide Title I programs to serve all students. • The primary goal of a school wide Title I program is a high quality education for every child. How does Title I Funding Work? • The federal government provides funding to states each year for Title I. To receive the funds, each state must submit a plan describing what all children are expected to know and be able to do; the high quality standards of performance that all children are expected to meet and ways to measure progress. • The local school district (LEA) identifies eligible schools and ranks schools according to poverty for Title I resources. • The Title I school (parents, teachers, school staff and administrators) sets goals for improvement; measures student progress using standards set forth in the state Title I plan, develops programs that add to regular classroom instruction and involve parents in all aspects of the program. What Programs are in Place to Support My Child? • Monitor, provide feedback and support the implementation Title I, Title IIA, Title IV of: collaborative planning, effective delivery of GSE • Utilize assessment data to ensure teaching and learning Title I aligns to the GSE. • Utilize the RTI process Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. The RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and universal screening of all children in the general education classroom., cohort data to implement and Title I monitor students’ academic progress. • Collaborate with content peers both vertically and horizontally to discuss data and instructional strategies that will help close achievement gaps. • Provide mandatory tutorial sessions to remediate students who fail their EOC & required classes. What Curriculum Does our School Use? • Burke County High School • International Baccalaureate • Career-Related Program • IBCP • The IBCP program teaches life skills sets needed for jobs and careers in the 21st century. It also provides flexible scheduling to merge the academic and career pathways. The program encourages partnerships with the community and learning beyond the classroom. It emphasizes self development, critical thinking, and intercultural understanding. Students will be engaged in a learning experience that will help them reach their potential using a global curriculum and perspective. Students get the chance to be involved in a career-related internship. They will also receive college credits and career certification. What a way to improve your community through service. What Tests will my Child be Taking? • Mastery of Learning Intervention • The philosophy of “THE” BCHS is to provide ample opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery of the standard. • As a standards-based school, the ideology of teach, assess(test), and re-teach until efforts have been exhausted are implemented to ensure the optimal opportunity to meet the expectation of standard mastery at the meet and exceed levels. • Students speaking other languages will take the WIDA language screener (WAP-T) and yearly assessment of language (ACCESS) Preparing Students for their Best Future

Family Engagement Opportunities • Offering credit recovery, course mastery of learning intervention to increase graduation rate. • Providing quarterly newsletters, updating websites, and parent workshops so that parents and students are well informed about activities, goals, and opportunities to remediate and/or enrich themselves to improve graduation rate and literacy skills. • Providing additional resources to include progress monitoring, tutoring, and examining student work. • Parent and teacher conferences held for any student failing or at risk of failing a course throughout the year • Title I Annual Meeting will be held at designated times throughout the year. • Parent Portal is available 24-hours a day for online access to your child’s academic progress. • Provide parents an opportunity to volunteer and participate in school-related events and activities. • Burke County High School has a parent coordinator who can be contacted if a parent wishes to volunteer at the school. • A Parent Advisory Council (PAC) will meet on the following dates: Complete yearly Title I surveys to give feedback on current programs and procedures.
