  1. Weapons assignment Booby Traps

  2. Knowledge and Understanding What happens after a booby trap has been created? • The trap must be placed. • Usually in a hole dug in the ground to a specific shape and size. • It must be covered to avoid it being seen. • It may have a trip wire set. • The Viet Cong and other groups around the globe that use booby traps then leave.

  3. Knowledge and Understanding What happens after a booby trap has been created? • Some people lay a marker of some sort next to trap. • This is done so their own people can see the trap. • They then wait hoping for someone to find it. • It takes time and patients for traps to be set off to see results.

  4. Analysis How is the effect of a booby trap similar to that of other weapons? • Traps injure, they are not designed to kill. • Like a bomb it leaves physical problems to those wounded. • Psychologically the effects of a trap compare to that of a bomb. • They cause destruction and those who see the destruction of a bomb or the pain of a trap will never mentally feel the same.

  5. Analysis • How is the effect of a booby trap similar to that of other weapons? • Of all wounded in Vietnam, 15% were wounded by traps. • 11% of the deaths were from the psychological and physical effects of traps, including infections from facieses on spikes. An Australian soldier had both legs amputated after getting an infection from a booby trap.

  6. Analysis • How is the effect of a booby trap similar to that of other weapons? • A trap takes at least 5 soldiers out of the field and a medic. • As they are all required to rescue the wounded and treat them, as well as all seek safe ground. This trap is designed to rip into the side of the body as someone falls through.

  7. Synthesis Devise a way to make a booby trap backfire. There are two ways Feeling the ground. Tread carefully to avoid the trap if you see it first. If you spot a marker, tread carefully. Uncover the trap and let the opposition fall in unexpectedly. Remove the marker so it can’t be seen. • Use a stick or other objects to feel, for holes in ground. • Avoid the trap, and the chance is someone will come to check it and fall in.

  8. Evaluation • Will be read out.
