Different types of Point of View • First person • Third person objective • Third person limited • Third person omniscient
First Person • A first-person narrator • Lets the reader feel very close to a specific character’s point of view • Gets in the mind of one character • The reader only knows what that one character knows • Uses “I” or “we”
Third Person Objective • A third-person objective narrator • Tells all of the action using “he” or “she” • Does not enter a single mind, is objective • Acts like a camera or a fly on the wall, showing us the scene as it really is
Third Person Limited • A third-person limited narrator • Tells all of the action using “he” or “she” • Is LIMITED to entering the mind of one main character • Acts like a camera or a fly in one person’s head, showing us the story as that character perceives it
Third Person Omniscient • A third-person omniscient narrator • Uses “he” or “she” • Gives us access into the thoughts and feelings of more than one character • Acts like a fly that gets into everyone’s head • Can focus on any one character at any time • Seems to be all knowing
Third Person Omniscient • A third-person omniscient narrator • John couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
