  1. Studies Work Group: Resources for Eight 2019 Change Cases Thomas Carr June 10, 2010 Studies Work Group Call

  2. Topics • Removing resources in CA • Adding resources to the 8 different locations with adjustments • Adjustment for biomass rankings • Special cases (NM, BC, NW Coastal)

  3. Removing Resources from CA

  4. Adding resources with adjustments • Peer Analysis Tool yielded reasonable renewable resource portfolios for most of the resource locations • Qualifications requiring adjustments • New spreadsheet that nets out existing 2019 Base Case renewables • Peer Analysis Tool biomass rankings adjusted by excluding WREZs with only biomass and/or adjusting developed biomass energy down by 50% • NM case hard wired to include TresAmigas energy (10% of 12 TWh) and solar energy (25% of 12 TWh) • BC resources to be supplied by BCTC/BC Hydro • NW coastal lacks WREZ zones on coast except in BC; use NREL wind data in OR and WA, and fill gap from BC.

  5. Arizona and Southern Nevada

  6. Wyoming

  7. Northern Nevada

  8. Montana

  9. British Columbia • BC’s firmed resource portfolio • Mix of renewables that will be firmed/shaped with hydro resources • Portfolio would meet targeted renewable generation over year • Large hydro would backfill to increase line utilization • BC Hydro developing specific resource mix to be modeled

  10. Alberta

  11. New Mexico & Southern Colorado

  12. OR-WA-BC Coastal • No WREZ wind on OR or WA coasts • BC has significant WREZ wind data • Heidi reviewed NREL wind data • WA coastal wind 1,423 GWh • OR coastal wind 4,162 GWh • Subtotal = 5,585 GWh • Propose BC fill the gap • Target = 12,000 GWh • OR+WA = 5,585 GWh • BC coastal wind = 6,415 GWh • Rely on WREZ wind data or BCTC/BC Hydro for location in BC

  13. NREL Wind Profiles Available for Coastal WA/OR Total Coastal Profiles: 119 WA Coastal Profiles: 21 OR Coastal Profiles: 53 OR Offshore Profiles: 45 GWh Available from Profiles: WA Coastal Profiles: 1,423 OR Coastal Profiles: 4,162 OR Offshore Profiles: 5,223
