MOVING FORWARDS to NPQHwhile aspiring to leadership in a Church school Programme Overview 2010 - 2011
Programme • Key features • Focus is Pre-NPQH with participants probably 12 – 18 months away from applying successfully for NPQH • The programme is for those aspiring to leadership in a Church school – but not necessarily working in a Church school at present – the group could easily be mixed • The programme consists of a total of 5 days – 1 or 2 to be held on a Saturday • Participants also are expected to give some personal time to preparation – possibly 2 hours between sessions. • The size of the group is based on a minimum of 15 participants from Church (Catholic / Church of England) or community schools • Facilitators – either diocesan officers and / or experienced headteachers • Input is needed from the local NPQH provider for NPQH taster session
Programme • Overview • Day 1 – Shaping the future • Starting point – a personal needs analysis • Mission, vision and values • Day 2 – Leading a learning community • Leadership • Managing change • Day 3 – Accountability • Governance – Legal Framework, Finance and Admissions • Self-evaluation • Section 48 Inspection • Day 4 – Readiness • Recruitment and selection • NPQH input • Evaluation • Day 5 – School visit
Resources • Programme materials • Materials to support programme facilitators in providing 4 days training plus 1 day school visit (see below) • Liturgy, PowerPoints, reflective journals, evaluation sheets, task sheets • Publicity • Flyer to send to schools et al to promote the programme • Accompanying letter to headteachers et al to promote the programme and further explain the flyer • Visit Notes • Information for headteachers so that they are prepared to host school visits • Information to participants so they are prepared to undertake a school visit • Certificate • Programme certificate for participants
Facilitators • The programme is significantly structured for facilitators, the aim being: • To give a framework of content and activity within which they can operate with confidence • To limit the amount of preparation demanded of facilitators • To provide the opportunity for participants to engage in a learning experience in an equitable manner across the regions / diocese • However, • Facilitators are able to interrogate the programme content and activities and change the sessions they deliver if they so wish • But, • The facilitators have to be mindful that any information passed on is as accurate as possible in terms of the law and best practice • Stating the obvious • The facilitators need to make sure: they are familiar with and understand the programme; how each session is organised and managed; and be fully prepared before each day
