Campaign Goal Goal Increase by at least 50% the number of low-income children reading at grade level by the end of third grade in at least a dozen states and school districts.

Campaign Launch in Sacramento, CA Over 300 community leaders participated in the launch of Sacramento’s Grade Level Reading Campaign on March 22-23, 2011. • Press conference with Mayor Kevin Johnson, city council members, and leadership from school districts, the public library, United Way, the police department, and the business community. • Reading event at the public library for 30 first graders • Community meeting at the Guild Theater attended by over 300 people • Release of detailed data on the scope of the grade-level reading problem in Sacramento • Call to action to become the first city in America with 100% of its 3rd graders reading on grade level within the next 10 years.

Campaign Goal Catalytic Event/Process • June 20th launch • 2012 Award is for plan/process • Letter of intent drives technical assistance & support • Application due in March 2012 • Over 100 cities in the mix
