  2. noun • any member of a class of words that can function as the main or only elements of subjects of verbs or of objects of verbs or prepositions • Example: A dog just barked • Example: to send money from home.

  3. verb • any member of a class of words that function as the main elements of predicates, that typically express action, state, or a relation between two things • Example: The dog barked.

  4. adverb • a word or group of words that serves to modify a whole sentence, a verb, another adverb, or an adjective • Example: Pete is very noisy! • Example: Tim will probably go to the park.

  5. adjective • any member of a class of words that modify nouns and pronouns • Example: the red balloon • Example: the shy girl

  6. pronoun • A word that takes the place of a noun • Example: Please give it to her

  7. conjunction • A word that joins words or groups of words • For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so

  8. interjection • any member of a class of words expressing emotion, distinguished in most languages by their use in grammatical isolation • Examples: Hey! Oh! Ouch! Ugh!

  9. clause • a group of words, consisting of a subject and a predicate • Example. Bill went to the mall.

  10. phrase • two or more words acting as a unit in a sentence. • Example: When Bill went to the mall, he saw his sister.

  11. preposition • A part of speech that indicates the relationship of one word to another • Example: They talked to each other.
