  4. 2002/03 Campuswide Needs • Address mobile computing issues: • Support • Student ownership of computers (or long-term rental) • Increased wireless coverage on campus • Faculty development support: • Continue to provide faculty support grants (similar to the summer research grants offered by the state) for innovations in teaching and learning. • Number of multimedia labs to increase on campus • Increased Smart Rooms on campus (beyond the OCOB) Orfalea College of Business

  5. 2002/03 College-Specific Needs • Wireless • Expand current wireless coverage in Building 3 (and surrounding areas) • Wireless Laptops – • want ability for faculty to wheel in a cart of laptops to use in the classroom, to reduce the reliance on formal labs • Replace instructor computer in our standard classrooms • Replace projectors in the labs and classrooms • Internet 2 capability in selected classrooms. • Primary purpose – teleconferencing capabilities in the classroom. • Initially, Room 03-206 • Increase the reliance on Blackboard and related technologies Orfalea College of Business

  6. 2002/03 Special Initiatives • Web-based assessment tools needed (hardware and software) • Increased number of FWP computers needed to match newly-hired faculty needs • Grid Computing network capabilities • A “seamless” computational universe (It consists of many computers networked together to provide increased computing capabilities. Needed for applications such as simulation and financial modeling.) Orfalea College of Business

  7. Strategic Issues Beyond 2002/03 • Need for Specialty labs. • MBA lab to be developed • Improve / maintain the existing Cisco lab in the OCOB • Equipment needed for testing and simulation. Want the ability to test frame relay and ISDN. • Continued support and expansion for Internet 2 Orfalea College of Business
