Final Exams Final Exams: Final exams MUST be administered according to the University's scheduled date and time. "Early" final exams or exams which do not conform to this schedule MUST be approved by the Area Chair and Dean well in advance of the final exam date. This is pursuant to an academic senate resolution on the topic: http://digitalcommons.calpoly.edu/senateresolutions/632/
FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) It is a violation to FERPA to leave graded assignments in any public area (e.g., the hallway) or to discuss student academic matters with any person other than the student (except for University officials within the course of official duties). The best way to comply with FERPA is to never discuss anything about a student except with the student himself/herself in private. Watch out for the casual inquiry which could lure you into violation (e.g., phone call from somebody claiming to be a parent and wanting to discuss the student's academic status).
AQ/PQAcademically/Professional Qualified http://ocob-faculty.calpoly.edu/aol/aqpq/ New Faculty: AQ • Faculty who have recently earned their Ph.D. are considered to be academically qualified for five years immediately after earning that degree. This status is based upon their recent completion of a dissertation that was ‘peer reviewed’ by their doctoral dissertation committee members. • Faculty who have recently earned their J.D. are considered to be academically qualified for three years immediately after earning that degree. By the end of the third year following the award of the J.D. degree, they must have at least one peer reviewed journal article (research article in journal format acceptable under the accounting and law area list of publications) unconditionally accepted for publication to be academically qualified.
AQ/PQAcademically/Professional Qualified Tenured Faculty: AQ • Possession of an earned research doctoral degree within an acceptable field (usually business or economics) or a J.D. • Must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to scholarship by making regular intellectual contributions to their chosen academic fields. These intellectual contributions comprise a faculty member’s research program and each academically qualified faculty is responsible for documenting the measurable outputs of his or her research program over time. This includes fully documenting his or her contributions in the Digital Measures database. One important output from a research program is publication in peer-reviewed journals, as the activity of peer review within the discipline provides external validation for the quality of a research program. (Details: http://ocob-faculty.calpoly.edu/aol/aqpq/)
AQ/PQAcademically/Professional Qualified PQ Faculty: Professionally qualified faculty must demonstrate commitment to maintaining and enhancing the intellectual capital that qualifies them to teach. The initial level of intellectual capital required, and the growth and investment in that intellectual capital must be appropriate for the course level and audience. The college provides support for certain types of professional development activities (Details: http://ocob-faculty.calpoly.edu/aol/aqpq/).
Digital Measures http://ocob-faculty.calpoly.edu/aol/digital-measures/ Digital measures is a system used for storing and tracking information related to the following: • AACSB accreditation • Eligibility for discretionary grants • Faculty Annual Report (FAR) grants of release time and professional development funds • AQ/PQ (Academically Qualified or Professionally Qualified status)
