Technology • Use publisher to create a travel brochure for a National Park • Use a Voki to create an avatar to teach others about a park http://kkillian.wetpaint.com • Create a PhotoStory video of scenes for the National Park
Science • Review key terms – observations, inferences, abiotic, biotic • Observations and Inferences about main painting • Video conference about other landscapes noticing abiotic and biotic features • Create a podcast about a landscape picture from the Smithsonian website naming the four key terms
Math • Convert temperatures from degrees Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius • Find the mean, median, mode, and range of the temperatures • Identify which measure of central tendency best describes their data • Create a box and whisker plot of all the data • Find the area of each county and create a scale drawing that comprises all of the counties in the Sierra Nevada
Counties in the Sierra • Nevada County, California • Placer County, California • Plumas County, California • Sierra County, California • Tulare County, California • Tuolumne County, California • Yuba County, California • The Carson Range (often considered part of the Sierra) extends into Nevada: • Douglas County, Nevada • Carson City, Nevada • Washoe County, Nevada • Alpine County, California • Amador County, California • Butte County, California • Calaveras County, California • El Dorado County, California • Fresno County, California • Inyo County, California • Kern County, California • Madera County, California • Mariposa County, California • Mono County, California
Enrichment • Students will take pictures of the landscapes around the school. • They will create a PhotoStory making sure to include science terms learned during the lesson. • Students will present their PhotoStory to another class to share their knowledge among different grade levels. • Students will reflect on their art lesson by writing a short paragraph on the teacher’s eBoard page or blog.
