  1. Book Auditions Here! How to audition a book or How do I find a book I will like?

  2. There is nothing sadder than an abandoned book You wouldn’t buy a car without test driving it or clothes without checking the size. Don’t pick out a book without “auditioning” it!

  3. Judge A Book By It’s Cover! While it should never be the only measure of a book, it’s a good place to start. Fact: Authors have almost no say in what the covers of their books look like.

  4. …And it was just right! • Picking a book at the right reading level for you is important. • The book shouldn’t be too hard or too easy. Can you find and understand: AR level? Lexile Level? STAR Score? Or the FFM (five-finger method)

  5. Blurb It! Read the back of the book or inside cover. Look for what it’s about. Read the review quotes. Are they from authors you like?

  6. Test Drive It! • Read a page or two. • Do you like the writing style? • Does the intro hook you? • Some electronic formats allow you to read a sample chapter before you buy.

  7. Go For Two Out of Three! • Is there a series you like? Have you read them all?

  12. So Where Do I Find Them? • Media Center -Be sure your fines are paid. They will never be accepted as an excuse for not having a book. • The Library -Your local library is close by and has books, movies, audio books and computers for patrons to use. They also have ebooks available for checkout. • Book Stores • Online vendors • If you have an ereader, Amazon.com and other e vendorsoften have free books or samples as well as other books.
