What is SAP • SAP stands for Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing. • SAP Software was Founded in 1972 by Wellenreuther, Hopp, Hector, Plattner and Tschira. • SAP is the fourth largest company in the world. • The sap r/3 system is a business software package designed to integrate all areas of a business. • It provides end to end solutions for financial, logistic, manufacturing, distribution etc. • All business process are executed in one sap system and sharing common information with everyone.

What is ERP • ERP is Enterprise Resource Planning • Enterprise resource planning system cover all basic functions of an organization • ERP is developing into a multi module application software package that enables business process across the supply chain management • ERP Software allows to integrate all the operational units such as financing, human resources, manufacturing, sales, marketing &accounting etc.

R Signifies Real-time system,3 Represent 3 tier Architecture. • Application Server-It is build to process business-logic. • Database server -stores and retrieves data as per sql queries generated by ABAP and java applications. • Presentation layer-contains the software components that make up the SAPgui (graphical user interface). This layer is the interface between the R/3 System and its users. • Application layer-consists of one or more application servers and a message server. Each application server contains a set of services used to run the R/3 System. • consists of a central database system containing all of the data in the R/3 System.

Sap modules • SAP Modules can be categorized into Functional Modules & Technical Modules Functional modules • SAP FI-FI stands for Financial Accounting • SAP HCM- HCM Human Capital Management  • SAP MM-MM is Materials Management • SAP SD-SD is Sales and Distribution • SAP PP-PP is Production Planning • SAP QM Module - QM stands for Quality Management • SAP CO Module - CO stands for Controlling

Technical Modules • SAP Basis SAP Basis is a set of programs and tools that act as an interface with Database, Operating system, communication protocols and other SAP modules like FI,HCM, SD etc. • SAP ABAP ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming) is the default programming language for SAP applications. 

  10. What is a SAP Consultant? • SAP Consultant is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) either on the • Business/ sales • Functional • Development or • Basis • domains of SAP. The consultant provides advisory, recommendations, guidance, implementation help in their respective SAP domains.

Types of SAP Consultant • Business/Sales Consultant - They try to win projects at customer end • SAP Functional Consultant - They are responsible for customizing SAP as per customer demand. They talk with developers to code custom ABAP programs as per client requirements. • Developer Consultant - They are responsible for coding ABAP/Java Programs   • SAP Basis Consultant - They help in installing, maintenance and performance tuning of SAP servers and databases • SAP is implemented in 9 out of every 10 Fortune 500 company. • There are so many sap consulting companies also.
