Welcome to 5rd Grade! • This is an important year for you! • I will give you an introduction to 5th grade and to our classroom. • If you have any questions during my presentation, please raise your hand and wait to be called on.
All About Me • My Background • I grew up in Meade County. • I attended UK, GGU, WKU. I have 2 bachelor degrees and 2 masters degrees. YOU are never too old to learn!!! • I lived in California for 12 years • I was in banking for 17 years before becoming a teacher. • My Experience • I have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 5th grades and have substituted in all grades.
My Family My husband is Tom. We have been married 30 years!!!!! • My sons are Paul and Matthew. Paul will be a sophomore at UK. Matthew is a sophomore at MCHS. He is on the golf and tennis team
We love to golf and to travel. I love spending time with my family. You will see pictures by my desk.
Interests • I love to read, run(2-3 miles daily), and golf. • I love spending time with my family. • I am a UK fan!! • I enjoy watching a lot of different sports, but my favorites are golf, football and basketball. • I am a health nut. • I love learning about new technology.
Dislikes • Spiders!!! (I scream!!) • Poor excuses • People that always say “I can’t.” If you put your mind to it…YOU can. • Laziness • Too many snow days
Goals • To give you the academic tools you need to progress to 6th grade. • To provide a safe and positive learning environment. • To have fun while we learn. • To make new friends and discover new interests. • To instill a love of math, reading and technology. • And to instill a love of learning!!
Class Rules • Respect others. • Listen to directions the first time they are given. • Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak. • Stay in your seat unless you have permission to do otherwise. • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
Homework • Homework policy • You are responsible for turning in your homework on time. • Late homework will result in lost behavior points; which could affect the following: • Friday Free Time • 9 weeks Reward • Academic Excellence
Work Hard , Play Hard • If we work real hard, we will have rewards thru out the year. Plus at the end of the year we have all sorts of fun activities. We tie-dye shirts, make chalk, make bubbles with bubble wands and most fun of all a huge water balloon fight!!
I look forward to seeing and teaching you each day. My goal is to keep you safe, challenge you to do your best, and help you to be successful. Let’s work together to make this your best school year yet!! Message from Mrs. Hewlett
