  4. Project features • Modularity: the global task is subdivided in stand alone tasks. Each one is managed by a PVSS manager . • Scalability: in order to balance the load each manager can be moved from one computer to another; • Configuration: each manager has a configuration file, any changing is updated at manager restarting; • Optimised pathway for data flow: any available data can be dispatched to several users at the same time via the different available protocols; 4 C. Bortolin, g. de cataldo and A. Franco INFN it/CERN CH

  6. General structure of the PVSS Manager Subscriptions Publications DIP DIM DP DIP DIM DP FILE EXCHANGE SERVER Sfsdfs sdfs Aadaskdasdj Asda asdas Asd asdas Asd asda RUN ENGINE Configuration File LOCAL PVSS DB • Each Manager can communicate on the network gathering data from different sources and publishing them via different protocols: DIP, DIM, PVSS Distributed DataPoint, and FXS. • It can store data into the local PVSS DB or send ASCII file with the File Exchange Server; • Signal conditioning can be applied on a single data item (smoothing, average, conversion, etc.) • The data flow is defined in a Configuration File, it is loaded and decoded at the manager restarting. 6 C. Bortolin, g. de cataldo and A. Franco INFN it/CERN CH

  7. Latest news • The files for the Offline are produced compliant with requested smoothing; • LHC item names are now based on aliases (naming convention to be finalized ); • E-Log: the DIM requested values already published except a ‘ Beam intensity sum’ , service under discussion; • ALICE publications for LHC compliant with the document LHC-OP-ES-0018 (Feb 23 2010) , nevertheless some values (now hard coded) to be filled with real ones (see C. Botolin Presentation); • Luminous region: discussion under way with HLT for the data exchange between HLT--->ALI_DCS ; • Work in progress with Luminosity, Background and CTP working groups 7 C. Bortolin, g. de cataldo and A. Franco INFN it/CERN CH

  9. Future plan 9 C. Bortolin, g. de cataldo and A. Franco INFN it/CERN CH • Regular meeting to discuss about: • User requirements; • Project evolution: • Data retrieval and analysis ? • Online display: an Operator Node to access data on the project? • ACR display; • …

  11. Conclusion The LHC-ALI_DCS project is a collector/dispatcher of information between several publishers and users; Its new modularity, scalability, data pathway optimization and configuration files provide features to cope with increasing requests of data exchange; Regular meetings to coordinate the data exchange and the project evolution to be called; For the present status of user requests and latest news on the project please visit http://alicedcs.web.cern.ch/AliceDCS/LHC 11 C.
