The Holy Spirit Baptizes andGives the Language of Tongues • Jesus said: “And these signs will follow those who believe… they will speak with new tongues.” Mk 16:17 • “…wait for the gift my Father promised … in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 1:4,5 • On the Day of Pentecost: “they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:3,4 • “He who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.” 1 Cor 14:4
Praying in Tongues is a Supernatural Gift - A Mystery • Praying in tongues is a supernatural gift which is a mystery to us. It’s the power of the Holy Spirit within you that enables you to speak in tongues. • Praying in tongues seems foolish to some and therefore many Christians don’t seek the gift or pray in tongues and miss a great blessing of God. “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Cor 2:14
When Praying in Tongues, You Are Speaking Directly to God "For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God”. 1 Cor. 14:2 • As you pray in tongues, you have a direct line to the Father in Heaven. • Sometimes while praying in our own language, we have the tendency to get distracted. Tongues keeps us talking directly to God, praying in agreement with His perfect will. Rom. 8:26-28
The Holy Spirit Prays Through You When You Don’t Know What to Pray “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” Romans 8:26,27 NIV • Even when you don’t know how or what to pray, you can still pray…in tongues. You can trust your spirit to pray the perfect will of God, regardless of the situation.
Praying in Tongues Is a Weapon Against the Work of the Enemy Jesus said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation… And these signswill accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons;they will speak in new tongues …they will place their hands onsick people, and they will get well.” Mark 16:15-18 NIV • Praying in Tongues empowers you to engage spiritual warfare from the position of victory in Christ. “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.” Eph. 6:18
Praying in Tongues is a Supernatural Gift that You Choose to Use 1. Your prayer language of tongues is a supernatural gift that once you receive it you choose to speak at your own will. Paul said of himself: “I thank God that I pray in tongues more than all of you.” 1 Cor 14:18 2. The nine Gifts of the Spirit [wisdom, knowledge, discerning of spirits, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, message in tongues, interpretation of tongues] are spontaneous gifts given at the will of the Holy Spirit for a specific time and purpose. 1 Co 12:7-11 Paul’s instructions to the church: “Do not forbid speaking in tongues.” 1 Cor 14:39
Praying in Tongues is a Mystery that Restores, Rebuilds and Repairs “But you, beloved, building yourself up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.” Jude 20 • Praying in tongues is a supernatural way to build your faith and rise above difficulties in the strength of the Holy Spirit. “He who speaks in a tongue edifies (G3618) himself.” 1 Cor 14:4 • G3618 oikodomeo - to restore by building, to rebuild, repair “Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you” … 1 Cor 6:19
Communion is another Mystery which is a Powerful Source of Healing In the Communion supper, the Lord provided two elements, wine and bread. • The wine speaks of His blood and through the shedding of His blood we are forgiven of our sin. • The bread speaks of His body which was broken for us to provide healing for our bodies. God gave us Communion, for the healing of our bodies, as well as for the forgiveness of our sins.
God has Mysteries that He Wants to Release for You For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 1 Co 14:2 • Praying in tongues is God speaking to God through you. • Praying in tongues activates a power that unfolds the secrets and mysteries that God has in His heart for every one of His children. • Praying in tongues releases destiny for you, for others and for nations.
RECEIVE the Baptism of the Holy Spirit • If you have received Jesus as your Savior, then you are ready to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. • Just like you received Jesus by faith, you will also receive the Holy Spirit. You don’t plead for God to give Him ~ all you do is receive! • Expect to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the gift of tongues when hands are laid on you. • Open your mouth and tell God “I’m receiving the Holy Spirit right now by faith” and then speak the supernatural sounds that come to you. Do not speak in English or your natural language. Receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit!
