  2. Most of my initial ideas are pixel art as I have a preference over that art style a lot, but with a music more art driven approach instead of it being simplistic. As well as platformers being preferred. • Fantasy is as very easy genre to make to as the rules for it are very lose and allows the most creative freedom.

  3. Project Idea

  4. Art Style reference • Most references I’ll be using are from games I have played pixel art but detailed I.E. Shovel Knight, Owl Boy, Stardew Valley, Undertale, Deltarune as well as Fez. • All these games go above the simplistic pixels, take it and run with it allowing the environments to also be visually appealing not only the gameplay and story.

  5. Similar Games • Similar games like that of my idea are Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee. All transport the player to a level or world where they must solve puzzle or defeat enemies to achieve an objective. • They also give a reference for environment designs that are more common in other games. Grass world, desert world, ice world and fire world and the basics but you can expand upon them to make more original, everyone can put their own twist on environments.

  6. Initial Design Work My starting Idea was a spirit possessing a suit of armour that was a part of the museum. But I changed that so I could add more colour to the protagonist to make them stand out from everything. The basic hub layout will be hallways of paintings while the museum itself will have other hallways to go down for more levels in paintings. All of the paintings will have their paint or image seeping out and floating around showing that you still have a level to complete.

  7. How to make it? • For this certain project I am better off using Unity as Unreal isn’t made for 2D Pixel games and will be easier with the editing features in Unity for the pixels. While there are many, many 2D Pixel platformer tutorials for Unity and all of these will come in handy for the game I am going to make.
