  2. What is Euramis? A collection of 32.661.000 multilingual, perfectly labelled (aligned) sentences in one single container. By September 2006: • 73,6% EurLex documents • 16,8% Council documents • 2,8% Budget final documents Carmen Bartolomé - EP DG TRED ES

What does Euramis do? • Allows re-use of previously translated sentences [for now, only Commission & Council documents] • Allows terminological multilingual/multidirectional contextual searches • Automatically extracts EurLex references from a non-translated original • Provides a machine translation (in TWB or Word output) • Compiles background documentation on a subject to create a translation memory (*.tmx) • Aligns any existing original with its translation Carmen Bartolomé - EP DG TRED ES

Examine retrieval report: • 528 sentences – 184 already translated (34,8%) • Open Word document in colours: • 100% matches in blue • < 100% matches in red • No matches in green • See e.g: • AM 92 (100%) • AM 100 (94%) • AM 127 (100%) All these sentences came from Council document st10415 Carmen Bartolomé - EP DG TRED ES

Why implement Euramis? - Highly efficient re-use of already translated documents (also for free-lance) • Increase of quality & consistency in translations • Highly reliable terminological multilingual searches in context • Highly reliable, powerful & easy to use tool: • It exists 10 years already, home-made tool (improved every day) • Euramis central memory: one single multilingual container with no size limits • Double format outputs: TWB/ Word • Commission & Council have already integrated Euramis in their workflow: we cannot be missing from that triangle • From the three, the EP is the Institution with: a) most re-use of documents; b) highest level of multilingualism: c) shortest deadlines Carmen Bartolomé - EP DG TRED ES

Set up of the Central Pre-Trad Service a) Coordination of all Euramis related issues (one-stop shop) & establishment of project management calendar b) “Feeding” the Euramis central db: - Alignment, correction & upload of basic references (Treaties, EP Rules of procedures, EP Expenses & Allowances, EP MODELS in 20 languages, etc.) - Alignment, correction & upload of TO docs. 2005-2006 & of ongoing legislative procedures Carmen Bartolomé - EP DG TRED ES
