Mission Statement The mission of the Student Accessibility Center is to create an accessible university community for students with disabilities, which fosters the development of each student’s full potential.
Campus Resource As a campus resource, SAC works with students, faculty and staff to promote an increased awareness of the abilities of all students and to ensure they are regarded on the basis of ability, not disability.
Eligibility • Any UW-Milwaukee student with a disability that restricts one or more of life’s major activities may benefit from SAC services. • We work with students with mobility, sensory, communications, mental, or learning differences, as well as those with basic health impairments.
Common Disabilities • Psychological (Depression, Anxiety, Bi-Polar, OCD, PTSD) • ADHD • Learning Disabilities • Chronic Health Conditions (Chron’s, Lupus, HIV, Cancer) • Visual Impairments • Deaf and Hard of Hearing • Autism Spectrum Disorders
Academic Support • Adaptive equipment and materials • Alternative testing • Laboratory and library assistance • Notetaking • Electronic textbook service • Sign Language, oral interpreting, and transcription services
SAC Roles • Provides legally mandated services to UWM students who have physical, learning, sensory or psychological disabilities that substantially affect or limit a major life activity. • Clarifies students' responsibilities and encourages self-advocacy.
SAC Roles • Assists faculty by verifying documentation of disability and identifying reasonable accommodations. • Facilitates requests for accommodations and provides information and training on disability issues.

Panther Academic Support Services (PASS) Free academic support services are available by weekly appointment, online, and on a walk-in basis for over 120 courses at the 100- and 200-level. We can help!
Our Mission • The goal of PASS is to help students achieve academic success. • We work with programs, departments, schools and colleges across campus to build partnerships and collaborations • We target students who are taking 100- and 200-level courses (and some 300-level) • We serve all students taking these courses but especially freshmen and sophomores
Panther Academic Support Services (PASS) • Weekly tutoring available individually or in groups • Supplemental Instruction sessions: group reviews offered four times a week for large lecture courses • Walk-in assistance available at the help desks • Online tutoring: weekly, exam review sessions, blended review sessions
Supplemental Instruction (SI) • SI, a national program which began in 1972 at UMKC, has demonstrated a significant difference in student retention nationally • Courses are selected in which freshman enrollment is 25% or more • We select difficult courses, often large lecture classes or core courses with 20%+ DFW rates • SI leaders attend course lectures & hold four review sessions per week plus desk hours • SI leaders support professors • SI leaders also focus on study strategies
The PASS SI Program • Began in 1995 with four courses • Has now expanded to 50 courses because it has been shown to enhance achievement • UWM’s Access to Success initiative lists SI as one of the most effective interventions for first year students • Both grade in class and retention are improved
Panther Academic Support Services (PASS) • Tutoring is located in Bolton 120 and Lib E154. • Supplemental Instruction has been held in Lib WB42 and in Cunningham 147 • Tutors/SI leaders are juniors, seniors and graduate students; PASS employs over 100 students. • Tutoring is also offered in UWM’s residence halls, as well as in the Music and Architecture buildings.
How Students Join Pass Services • SI sessions are open in summer for fall registration for incoming first-year students • Students can sign up in person, in Bolton 120, or online the first week of class • Throughout the semester, they can come to any of our centers,make appointments online, or walk in for help • Students can join us at any point during the semester, but starting at the beginning is strongly encouraged.

PASS Collaborations • STEM tutoring for Multicultural students • Engineering SI for Chem 105 • Business Freshman Seminar for students taking Math 90-95 • Five SIs for Pre-Nursing Students in Cunningham 147 • Class visits to the Nursing Endeavor Program • Provide tutoring for Athletics
