Policy Change • August 2009: The Planning Commission added the Walkability Amendment to the Comprehensive Plan. • September 2009: Council adopted a Complete Streets Policy. • October 2010: Council amended the sidewalk assessment ordinance to reflect a 50/50 split between the property owner and the City of Albert Lea. • November 2010: Council authorizes first ever bike lane • December 2012: City Hall grounds declared tobacco free as of January 1, 2013
Making it Happen The Front Street bike lanes are about 1.5 miles long and connects to Blazing Star Bike Trail

Other Community Policy Changes • Albert Lea Elementary Schools – Healthy Snack Carts • Albert Lea Area Schools – Healthy Options in Cafeteria • Albert Lea Area Schools providing physical education classes four times per week in elementary schools • Eleven Worksites Establishing Tobacco Free Campuses • Mayo Clinic Health System establishes odor free policy
