Maryland State Health Department Injury Prevention Program and ICRC Collaboration
Johns Hopkins ICRC • Smoke Alarms for Everyone - Partnered with Baltimore City Fire Department and JHCIRP in providing free smoke alarms for Baltimore City residents - SAFE program provided over 4,000 10-year lithium battery smoke alarms - JHCIRP provided the CARES van and health educators to educate residents in fire prevention in the Enhanced Program, while providing just educational materials in control group. The results from the Enhanced Program was very effective.
Injury Prevention State Plan Revision – JHCIRP conducted statewide focus groups and revised our initial state injury plan. Four areas of need were revealed: 1) vison, 2) connections, 3) evidence and 4) advocacy, and informed the development of the 2012 state injury plan. • Core VIPP Evaluation – JHCIRP assists with the Core VIPP program evaluation. • JHCIRP sits on the Strategic Advisory Board (governance structure) for the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic Regional Network.
W. Virginia University ICRC • W. Virginia University ICRC is an active member of the Strategic Advisory Board for the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic Regional Network • Maryland State Health Department Injury Prevention Program/Regional Network Leader, sits on the External Advisory Board for the W. Virginia University ICRC.
Maryland SHD Injury Prevention Program hosted a meeting in June 2014, initiated by the WVUICRC to explore potential collaborations. The following areas for collaboration were identified: • Senior Falls • Occupational Safety • Prescription drugs • Motor vehicle injury Regular conference calls established.
