  2. Confiscators • To seize by authority • The confiscators took away the Japanese documents away from us because they might have secret information in them. • Confiscators confiscate cool cars.

  3. Sinister • Bad, evil, wicked • The sinister man robbed our house and stole everything in it. • Sinister spies spook spiders.

  4. Futile • Ineffective, useless, no result • The study guide was futile if you did not use it. • It was futile to rip up the tile.

  5. Dignity • Nobility or worthiness of a person • The President has a lot of dignity because lots of people have respect for him. • Dig some dignity

  6. Fruitless • Useless, unproductive • Seat-belts are fruitless if you do not use them correctly. • A tree without fruit is worthless.

  7. Internment • To be confined sometimes as prisoners • They sent us to internment camps after the attack at Pearl Harbor because we are Japanese. • Enter internment

  8. Hostility • (hostile) the feeling of being opposed to someone or something; not friendly or generous • The man treated us with hostility because we were Japanese. • No host should be hostile.

  9. Subordinate • Of lesser importance • She was subordinate because it was only her second week on her new job. • Substitutes are subordinate than the regular teacher.

  10. Aggravated • To make more severe or worse • They left us aggravated in the pouring, ice cold rain. • Aggravated=long word • Waiting outside=long time

  11. Intangible • Incapable of being touched • The glass sculpture was intangible because if pressure was applied, it would break. • The tangle was intangible.

  12. Promenade • A stroll or walk in a public place • There were people promenading down the road in New York City. • Before prom, we had a promenade.

  13. Pacify • To bring to a state of peace; calm • The mother needed to pacify the screaming child. • Pacifier=pacify

  14. Oblivion • The state of being completely forgotten or unknown • The student was oblivion after they moved away. • Oblivion/oblivious

  15. Sustenance • Sustaining life; nourishment • The plant needed sustenance to live. • Sustain-->sustenance

  16. Subdued • Quiet; inhibited; controlled • The subdued children never were a problem in the classroom. • The sub kept the kids subdued.

  17. Lethargy • The state of being drowsy or dull • She was lethargy after staying up all night. • Lethargy=groggy

  18. Assented • To agree or concur • She assented to doing her homework after she found out her mom would give her chocolate afterwards. • Assenting=agreeing

  19. Capitulate • To surrender unconditionally • The basketball team capitulated after they found out that they didn’t have enough players to play. • They captured the capitulated team.

  20. Assertive • Confidently aggressive or self-assured • The bully acted assertive towards the younger kid. • Aggressive, assured, and assertive all have double letters.

  21. Authentic • Not false or copied, genuine, real • The Chinese food was so authentic, the customers thought it was imported from China! • Authentic Authors are real.
