  1. Global Geologic Map of Io • First complete global geologic map of Io, produced using Galileo and Voyager data • Hotspots (sites of volcanic activity) correlated with types of geologic features • Io has 19 geologic units in 5 classes: Plains (65.8%), Lava flow fields (28.5%), Mountains (3.2%), Patera floors (2.5%). Five types of superposed diffuse deposits cover ~18% of surface: Red (8.6%), White (6.9%), Yellow (2.1%), Black (0.6%), Green (~0.01%) • 425 paterae cover 2.5% of surface, but correlate with 64% of hot spots => Dominance of silicate volcanism, in the form of lava lakes in volcanic craters • Only 2% of hot spots correlate with Bright Flows => Minimal active sulfur volcanism Published by USGS, available from: http://pubs.usgs.gov/sim/3168/ • Primary results from mapping published in 2011 Icarus paper: Williams, D.A., L.P. Keszthelyi, D.A. Crown, J.A. Yff, W.L. Jaeger, P.M. Schenk, P.E. Geissler, T.L. Becker, 2011, Volcanism on Io: Insights from global geologic mapping, Icarus, v. 214, p. 91-112.
