Although nowadays there is no single definition of component, several standards are emerging. The impact of these technologies in the simulation field is an exciting area of research. On the other hand simulation methodologies can contribute to shape the contours of component technology. Looking at the history of Simulation and Software Engineering we can recognize the fundamental impact of earlier simulation languages in shaping the now, widely used, Object-Oriented Languages. The 12th Anniversary of the AIS series will take place in Lisbon, Portugal. AIS-2002 similar to its predecessors, provides a forum for scientists, academicians, and professionals alike from around the globe to present their latest and exciting research findings in various fields of Artificial Intelligence, modeling, simulation, and their integration. The AI, Simulation, and Planning conference welcomes contributions in the topic areas listes above. We also welcome proposals on special sessions and topics.
