  1. Bell Ringer 1/27 - Mystery I went on an exploration and I discovered an organism, named Sequoiadendrongiganteum. I found that this organism is multicellular and eukaryotic. It also did not appear to eat food, but it was able to grow when placed in the sun and given water and air. • What process does this organism use to make or get its food to grow? • What kingdom would this organism belong to considering everything you know about it? 3. I also discovered that this organism was being attacked by something very small, that appeared to be made up of only a set of DNA and a protein shell around it. What could be attacking the cells of the Sequoiadendrongiganteum?

  2. Bell Ringer – Answers! I went on an exploration and I discovered an organism, named Sequoiadendrongiganteum. I found that this organism is multicellular and eukaryotic. It also did not appear to eat food, but it was able to grow when placed in the sun and given water and air. • What process does this organism use to make or get its food to grow? PHOTOSYNTHESIS • What kingdom would this organism belong to considering everything you know about it? PLANTAE (multicellular, eukaryotic, autotrophic) • I also discovered that this organism was being attacked by something very small, that appeared to be made up of only a set of DNA and a protein shell around it. What could be attacking the cells of the Sequoiadendrongiganteum? a VIRUS

  4. Agenda • Bell Ringer • Announcements • Brief review – Cell processes • Cell Processes Independent Practice • Activity stations (puzzle and memory game) • R.U.B.I.E.S. with questions • Viruses intro • Exit Ticket

  5. Announcements • Finish your Next Steps card (colorful paper with 3 things you are going to write on)…you will turn those into me today so I can give you feedback for next week • Friday is EARLY RELEASE day

  6. Independent Practice • Working QUIETLY and INDEPENDENTLY at your desk on the front and back • If you have questions ask Ms. Pittman • When you are finished raised your hand *****#8 on Matching has 2 answers (you should write 2 letters)****

  7. R.U.B.I.E.S. • What does RUBIES stand for again? • Let’s see the strategy in action on the following questions -

  8. Switch gears – Virus time!

  9. Show me what you got! Time for you to…

  10. Exit Ticket 1. What cell part is responsible for maintaining homeostasis in the cell? 2. What process takes the energy from light and converts it into glucose? 3. What organelle makes energy for the cell? 4. This type of transport would not be possible if the cell were unable to make ATP energy: 5. In this type of transport, water moves across a membrane.
