TVA • The Tennessee Valley Authority passed by congressed on May 18, 1933. • President Roosevelt needed ideas to make the New Deal better and to lift the nation out of the Great Depression. • The New Deal is economic programs in the US during 1933-1936
TVA continued.. • Roosevelt had many options to fix the problems of the beginning of the Great Depression but the TVA sounded most promising. • When Roosevelt was making a statement to congress to pass the TVA he said he wanted: • “a corporation clothed with the power of government but possessed of the flexibility and initiative of a private enterprise.”

Problems They Faced. • The TVA often faced issues like: • Power Production. • Navigation, and flood control. • Malaria Control. • Reforestation/Erosion control.
What the TVA did. • TVA created new fertilizers, taught farmers how to improve crop yields. • They also helped replant forests, control forest fires, and improve habitat for wildlife and fish.
More on what The TVA did. • The TVA would build Dams to control rivers around different parts of the Country. • Dams controlled floods, made navigation easier, and would help generate electricity.
The New Deal • Was there to help the economy. • The things that came from the new deal” • Economy Act-cut federal costs throught the reorganization of cuts in salaries and veterans. • Beer-Wine Revenue Act-legalized and taxed wine. The Three R's. • The New Deal was President Roosevelt's plan to help get us out of the Great Depression.
More on New Deal • Failed because it didn’t go far enough fast enough. • Help to recover the economy a little but it didn’t do enough. • The New Deal on the other hand did begin saving banks.
Huey Pierce Long Jr. • He was the 40th governor of Louisiana from 1928-1932. • Then was US senator from 1932-1935. • He was a democrat although he was also backed up Franklin D. Roosevelt. • He created the Share our Wealth program in 1934 to redistribute wealth. • He was a critic of the Federal Reserve systems and their policies.
Huey Continued.. • His Share Of Wealth program started problems with the New Deal. • Roosevelt’s supporters opposed Long because of his program. • The Share of Wealth progran took away fortunes of people. • It gave $5,000 to families to buy homes, cars, radios, ect.
