Rules for Training • Participation is crucial • No wrong/stupid answers • Respect one another • No talking while others talk, • No rude comments or noises • Wait until you’re called upon
Why we’re here… • Because we have to be • To learn some skills that will carry over into adulthood • To learn more about ourselves

Ice Breaker • What is an ice breaker? • Definition of an ice breaker: • An activity used to lighten the mood and or get participants warmed up to the idea of interaction
Topic of the Day: Building Self-Esteem • Do emotions affect self-esteem? • What are some of the ways that emotions affect self-esteem? • What affects the way that we feel? • How much control do we have over our emotions?
Topic of the Day: Building Self-Esteem • What are some of the ways that we can try to control our emotions? • What are some ways we can control the way we let others affect our emotions? • What actions can we take to improve our own self-esteem and that of others around us?
Things we know… • According to kidshealth.org: • “Kids who feel good about themselves seem to have an easier time handling conflicts and resisting negative pressures.” • A sense of accomplishment or lack of accomplishment helps develop a child’s self-esteem even from the earliest stages. • For example: Learning to roll over o your own or getting a spoon into your mouth starts to teach a child about their own abilities
Other things we know… • Actions toward others can affect how people feel and change perceptions • Negative actions result in negative perceptions = low self-esteem • Positive actions result in positive perceptions = high self-esteem
