Homework • Mathhomework – Willbecheckeddaily (homeworkmaybedifferentiated) • Spellinghomework (weekly) • Second grade studentsneedtoread a minimum of 20 minutes eachnight and complete their response log **Homeworkisnotmeanttobefrustrating! Ifyourchilddoesnotunderstand, justwrite a note and I can helpthenextday.

  19. School Hours • The firstbellrings at 7:35 a.m. • The schooldaybegins at 7:45 a.m. • Afterthis time, yourchildwillneed a tardy slip fromthefront office

Attendance • Itisveryimportanttoattendschooleachday so yourchilddoesnotgetbehind. • Ifyouknowyourchildisgoingtobeabsent, pleasecall or send a note and I can try togivethemtheirworkahead of time. • If your child is ill, please send a note for the office when he/she returns. • Office note isrequiredtoreturntoclassroomafter a beingabsent • Mustbe in school at 10:00, otherwisecountedabsent

  21. Dress Code • We follow the GCISD dress code. Some things to be aware of: • For shirts, shoulder straps need to be 3 fingers wide (no spaghetti straps) • Shorts need to fall below the finger tips. • T-shirts cannot have violent scenes or guns. • Other related items: • Girls have a hard time at recess in heels. • Our room can get cold at times, so students are welcome to keep a jacket at school.

  22. Cafeteria • Breakfast in theClassroom – Cafeteriaaccountischarged. Ifthe balance isempty, students are notallowedtoeatbreakfast • Lunch is at 11:00 and ends at 11:30 • Parentsmayjointheirchildfor lunch/eat at tablesonstage.

  23. Snacks • Water bottles (with a lid) are encouraged! • Kids may bring healthy snacks • No juice or sodas in the classroom

Birthday Celebrations • Celebrations take place in the classroom at the end of the school day (2:15) • Please give 24 hour or more notice so we plan time for the celebration • Federal regulations do not permit foods of minimal nutritional value to be served in the food service area during meal periods. • Classroom birthday celebrations may not be served in the cafeteria where meals from the Nutrition Services Department are being served and consumed. Birthday celebrations must take place in the classroom or in the cafeteria after all meals have been served.

  26. Field Trips • Dallas Arboretum is being planned for October • Dallas Zoo is planned for spring • LifeSong Theatre plays • Field Day • 2nd Grade T-shirts! • Each class has a special color • Send yellow order form with $5 by Friday, 9/27 • Mrs. Christy’s class has GREEN shirts

  27. NEW POLICY! To attend field trips and other class events, you must: Complete the online background check and Attend the volunteer training - tonight at 7 p.m. - Thursday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
