Zygote • The united egg and sperm are called a zygote • within 36 hours the zygote is still in the fallopian tubes, it then begins to divide
Implantation • Within four to five days after fertilization the growing zygote reaches the uterus • It floats free for a few days in the uterus • By this time it is made up of about 500 cells
Blastocyst • This structure is no longer a solid mass, it is a hollow sphere • Once the structure becomes a blastocyst, it attaches to the wall of the uterus

Embryo • After implantation it is known as an embryo
Pregnancy • Once pregnant the embryo begins to produce HCG ( human chorionic gonadtropin) • HCG can be found in the blood of a pregnant women • One week after menstruation should have begun, HCG should be found in the women’s urine
