Structure of a scientific paper [1,2] Basic structure IMRAD: • Introduction (what question was asked?) • Methodology (How was it studied?) • Results (What was found?) • And • Discussion (What do the findings mean?)
Introduction: Capturing Readers • Write a strong introductory paragraph, • “Go right to the essence of the argument to “hook” the reader”. (Byrne 1998) • The opening sentences of the Introductions must be original “reader-grabbers” (1:Baker 86) • E.g: A provocative question, a new perspective, sometimes a good quotation.
