  1. Nature and itsmagicsounds Recycling Istituto Comprensivo “Leone Caetani” of Cisterna di Latina COMENIUS 2012-2014

  2. Every person can help and make a difference!Live in Harmony with Nature and Learn to understand Nature! Butterflies are a goodindicatorfor a healthyenvironment

  3. Why recycling isveryimportant?

  4. Recycling is… Recycling is a process to change materials (waste) into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from landfilling) by reducing the need for "conventional" waste disposal, and lower greenhouse gas emissions as compared to plastic production.Recycling is a key component of modern waste reduction and is the third component of the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" waste hierarchy.

  5. The Ronchi Decree of 1997 is a law issued by the Italian State which regulates the management of waste. It is based on the principle of the 4 R: • Reduce • Reuse • Recycle • recoup How many waste materials food we throw in the trash?According to the UN there are 842 million people who suffer from hunger: LET’S REDUCE WASTE!!! In the world of the 100.000 tonnes of textile waste, 68% is reused from other people, 25% is recycled and only 7% issent for disposal. The box of your cereal and that of fruit juices and other paper containers, once thrown, where do they end up? Recovery of old furniture: to create a flower box!!!

  6. A great way to keep Earth clean is to recycle! • Recycling reduces Land pollution • Recycling reduces Air pollution • Recycling reduces Water contamination • Recycle to save money • Recycle to have a better life • Recycling secures the future of our children

  7. Recycling is important, but it can be complicated. What can’t go in your curbside bin? How many times can something be recycled? What about really large or dangerous items? We’ve rounded up answers to all these questions and more: • Howtorecycle at home? • Howtorecycle at school? • Howmaterialsare recycled? • Where can yourecycle? Have something to recycle?Find out how and where! What’s in ourrubbishbin? Recycling means turning waste into reusable materials. It ‘s an effective way to reduce energy consumption industries and to save money on raw materials.

  8. -Only 15% of the 65 million printer cartridges that are sold in the UK are recycled .It means the rest ends up in landfill sites and this is major bad news as that of the plastic used in a typical cartridge made of polymers that is expected takes up to 1000 years to decompo se! -100% recycling of batteries • -Many building materials can be reused, such as bricks and wood. -Some councils will accept asbestos at their household waste recycling centres. -Containers of medicines can be recycled once they are empty. -Composting is an excellent way to recycle kitchen and garden waste. It is very easy to build your own compost bin and use the compost to help your garden grow. -Up to 80% of a vehicle can be recycled. -Electrical equipment can be reused or broken down into parts. -Donate usable furniture to charity shops, schools, community centres, friends or neighbours. -Carriers can be reused next time we are at the shops, or deposit the used ones at collection points provided by some supermarkets. -Reuse glass whenever possible. Jars can be used as small containers and bottles can be used as vases. -It's possible to test the metal waste by using a magnet. Aluminium metal is non-magnetic whereas steel is magnetic. -Many manufacturers take back old mobile phones for recycling. -Buy recycled wood whenever possible. -Use eco-friendly alternatives whenever possible. -Buy recycled paper whenever possible. -Donate old clothes to charity shops or take them to a jumble sale.-

  9. Glass, paper, plastic, aluminum arrive to special companies that work them until they go back to being raw materials ready to be processed and reused. The separate collection for recycling and recovery, is one of the most effective systems to face waste emergency because it allows to reduce the volume of materials to be sent to landfill.

  10. GREEN ECONOMY “The scarcity of natural resources and, at the same time, the availability of the new ones offer the opportunity to manage the waste. The investment in the waste market allows to generate multiple economic and environmental benefits. In fact, the recycling sector creates more jobs: in particular, in Europe, people employed in this eco-industry are growing at a rate of 11% per annum“. “In nature nothing is created, nothing is destroyed, everything is transformed” A.Lavoisiere

  11. The island of waste is officially a State The island of waste formed in the Pacific was recognized by UNESCO as a federalstate. Of course, it doesn’t appear on any map and has no defined borders, but it has a capital, Garbandia, its own constitution, a government and a national flag - blue, like the sea, with red swirls such as those on the Pacific piped and met on five islands tons of waste brought by rivers or unloaded from ships. We have a new state, made of waste: the State Garbage Patch, the Garbage state. The huge island of plastic waste, large like Texas and one hundred feet deep, formed in the Pacific Ocean, has obtained the institutional recognition of a federal state by UNESCO, thanks to the candidacy proposal by Italy's Maria Cristina Finucci, a professional artist. It’s absurd that the island of waste is a State, but it is. And not only that.To give shape to the new state the same Maria Cristina Finucci, for the occasion, created in partnership with the University Ca 'Foscari in Venice and with the patronage of the Ministry of Environment,”LAND DESOLATE” in reference to the famous poem by Thomas Stearns Eliot - , an installation consisting of thousands of colorful plastic caps encased in clear plastic bags to symbolize this huge continent of floating waste that pollutes our seas. The work will be exhibited during the period of the Venice Biennale, from 29 May to 24 November, at the University Ca 'Foscari, elected the seat of the pavilion of the Garbage Patch State.

  12. RECYCLING IN THE WORLD In New York the scraps of food will become biogas used to generate electricity Fashion ethics and sustainability in Milan "So critical so fashion ” Tibagi: the wastes are turned into compost! In Brazil from waste flowers are born!!!

  13. Best Practise Cisterna di Latina on "Ballarò" as an example of good practice in encouraging the waste collection. The program, conducted by Giovanni Floris, was aired on the three network of Italian television.Theydiscussed,in addition, the initiative "Separate and save ..." Cisterna di Latina, 18th September 2013

  14. Solid Waste ISPRA presented the following report: in Italy, the separate waste collection is almost 40% Wednesday, June 19, 2013 Goes down one almost 1.1 million tons, because of the crisis, the domestic production of municipal waste that, between 2010 and 2011, marks a -3.4% decrease in 2012 which continue decreasing further in the years 2012-2013 of 2.5 million tons (- 7.7%).The national production stood at below 30 million tonnes (value similar to those reported in 2002/2003).Last year, every inhabitant Italian has produced 504 kg of waste, less than 32 kg , less than in 2010. Approximately 36% of the total is landfilled, 23% was sent to incinerators, 26% was started at 15% recycling and composting. The separate collection stood at 37.7% in 2011 and 39.9% in 2012, with rates up to 52% in the north of Italy, 32.9% in the Centre and 26.7% in the South. But not all waste produced in Italy remain within national borders.Waste exported in 2011 amounted to over 311.000 tons, of which about 310 thousand tons are non-hazardous waste (99.7%)addressed for the most part in Austria for 23% of total exports (more than 71 thousand tons ), followed by China with 17.5% ofthe total, Hungary with 16.9% and Germany with 10.1%.

  15. What is the situation in Europe with regard to recycling?

  16. Art and Design More than 40.000 disposable bags have been used to create the bodies of two giant snails installed along the streets of Angers, France. It’s FlorentijnHofman’s work.
