An Overlooked Economic Giant Over 140 million Americans make outdoor recreation a priority in their daily lives. Americans spend $646 billion annually on outdoor recreation. Between 2005 and 2011 the outdoor recreation economy grew approximately 5% annually– this during an economic recession when many sectors contracted.
