BOTSOC • Sixteen branches throughout the country • Largely community based • 22000 individual members nation wide • Close co-operation but independent from NBI (Gov) • Top class quarterly magazine (Veld & Flora). • Provide education and technical advice • Offer botanical tours and outings PMG note: graphics not included, please email info@pmg.org.za
BOTSOC BOTSOC • Lightweight umbrella • Small permanent staff • Council elected by branch members • Inclusion of ex officio delegates from NBI • NON GOVERNMENT ORGANISATION (NGO) PMG note: graphics not included, please email info@pmg.org.za
How would sites and community organisations qualify for membership of the Umbrella ? Heritage Sites - • Must qualify for grading as I, II or III sites. • Must qualify for a Heritage Agreement. • Must have ‘Conservation Plan’. • Must be capable of being ‘secured’. • Must have viable ‘Business Plan’ and ‘critical mass’ for sustainability.
How would organisations qualify ? The Organisation - • Must be Heritage or Conservation orientated. • Must be formally established • Must be a legal entity • Must have proven capability or be able to demonstrate competence.
How can this meeting help? • By creating a small joint working group of A&C, DEAT and HUB representatives to workshop options. • By identifying ‘Kick-start projects’ (e.g. TMNP ?) • By supporting an appropriate Draft Constitution (BOE) • By assisting the establishment of alliances with overseas Trusts and thus becoming part of a World-Wide Family.
A National Trust will need: • Seed funding to get off the ground. • The ‘stamp of Government approval’. • Sponsorship for an “SA Heritage” magazine to kick start interest across Provinces. • A High Profile Board of Trustees with NRM as Patron!
Above all Passion and enthusiasm

The Oldest Working Battery of Original Guns in the World PMG note: graphics not included, please email info@pmg.org.za
Launched in June 2003, it is the largest wooden ship afloat and is a replica of a c.1745 East Indiaman which is now on its way to China. It has captured the imagination of many countries across the world and has created enormous national pride in her own country and their Heritage. The previous two pictures of a gun salute were taken recently in Hout Bay to honour the visit of the Swedish ship “Götheborg” .... perhaps the most ambitious ‘living heritage’ project ever undertaken in modern times.
