Rationale • The knowledge needs in farming are increasing • The needs for the latest knowledge are increasing • The use of IT-technologies at farm level are increasing • Combining professional knowledge needs at farmer / farmer advisors level with the use of IT-technology = EAT Database • Cross-border exchange of knowledge • Demonstrations area: Dairy Cattle

Objectives • To provide accurate and targeted information's on research and development in dairy farming and related subjects • To provide the informations at ”farmers level” – to be implemented directly on farms • To provide up-to-date informations at all times • To give the farmers a dynamic tool to inspire them to improve product quality, animal welfare and economic output • To develop the demonstration project into a commercial application and to extent it to other areas (geographical and subjects)

Target users • Farmers (primary target) • Farming advisory centers (primary target) • Technical oriented companies (especially SME´s) • Research institutions • Education institutes at levels from training farmers to academic levels • Suppliers to the farmers who have only limited technical knowledge (financial institutions ect.)

Business Case • Internet based platform • Easy-to-use and fast-to-use • Based on yearly access by a bought password (sold by strategic partners in each country) • Price differentiation between target groups and countries • Public knowledge from literature and research results – transformed to a user-friendly level • Knowledge from universities which is transformed to farming level and translated to 5 languages

System information • Based on linux system software / database solutions (mostly shareware) • Central or de-central server solution (to be decided) • Based on use by 56 kB modems and up – and an off-line version in special cases • Central technical support of the database • De-centralized content up-load and education support but Central Quality Control on content and translation

  9. Project technicalities • 11 partners from six countries • Total Budget: € 989.012 • EU-contribution: € 499.305 • Duration: 24 months • Project start: 14. may 2004 • First version launched: January 2005 in Denmark • Versions in all countries: January 2006. • Commercially success: May 2006 !!
