A Royal Health Initiative RHAS, a non profit organization, established in 2005 under the direction of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah to promote health and to empower Jordanians to adopt healthy lifestyles and behaviours.

Introduction: The Award • HisMajesty King Abdullah II and Her Majesty Queen Rania have assigned priority to implement The KAIIA project on most levels of the Jordanian society especially to the students within schools : • The KAIIA project was inspired by the President’s Challenge in the USA. • Our vision is to firmly establish sports activities as a daily habit.
Introduction: Award Main Partners • Ministry of Education: implementation of the KAIIA project in all schools by staff. • Royal Health Awareness Society: Quality Control • British Council Jordan: implementation the Youth Leadership Training Program for gold level winners.
Award: Intended Beneficiaries • Direct Beneficiaries – students, physical education teachers and principal in participating schools. • Indirect Beneficiaries- core team from both MOH and MOE, parents and the surrounding school community ( Jordan community ).
Award: Activities • A program of voluntary activities is applied by students (9 – 17 years of age ) nationwide:
Award: Pre-Tests • The following data is collected: • Medical tests are performed by the Ministry of Health staff . • Body Mass Index (BMI), height and weights measurements by health teachers. • Pre ,Post and the final test results. • Results are entered and the data is saved for future reference using the e-fitness program (Edu-Wave).
Award: Tests • The tests consist of five major parts • Curl-Ups Exercises (maximum repetition) • Shuttle-Run Exercises (10m x 4 times) • Push-Ups Exercise: (maximum in 1 min) • Sit & Reach Exercise (stretching test box) • Endurance Run/ Walk Excursive (for 1 mile)
Award: Levels The award has the following three levels: • School Level: where the participant scores less than 50%. • Directorate Level: where the participant scores from 50% - less than 85% . • Ministry Level: where the participant scores from 85% - 100%. Its include 3 levels : Bronze , Silver and Gold.

Introduction: Leadership Program • Under International Inspiration, MOE and RHAS are cooperating both with the British Council in Jordan and Youth Sport Trust Institute to develop and apply the Leadership Program., for the following goals: • To empower young people by providing key life skills such as leadership training. • To strengthen the KAIIA project and enrich the program by providing a leadership component. • To allow UK and Jordanian schools to share and exchange best practice, culture and experiences.
Leadership Component: Module Component Module and manuals for training were prepared by UK Consultant Paul Tebay,in collaboration with a core team consisting of RHAS staff and MOE practitioners.
Leadership Component: Pilot Phase • 6 practitioners were nominated. • UK Consultant ( Paul Tebay and Alain Bell ) trained 40 representatives from all directorates (Core Team). • Practitioners were trained and supervised on delivering the material (Lead Team). • Core Team members implemented the leadership component as a trial (6 Schools). • Supervision on a regular basis by the UK Consultant.
Leadership Program: Implementation • Core team implement the following : • Select the participating schools and teachers from each directorate. • Trained the physical education teachers on delivering the module. • The physical education teachers teach the students on • The designed 14 lesson. • How to be a good leader.
Leadership Program: Implementation • 10 students from each school, 13-14 years of age, are selected . • Selected students are gold level winners demonstrating leadership skills. • Selected students helped implement the following activities: • KAIIA exercises , Assembly line ,Warm-up exercises in physical activity sessions. Preparing the tools for the physical activity sessions , implement Different sports activities in the school and Other non-sports related activities related activities such as voluntary work.

Leadership Program: Achievements • A ) 1600 Student Leaders in various schools within Jordan. • B ) 160 fitness clubs were established in various schools within Jordan. • C ) Module was developed for the leadership. • D ) The Program was adopted by the Ministry of Education. • E )Student leaders preformed various activities within their schools. • F ) Capacity building of 160 MOE Teachers. • G) Expansion to all poverty pockets in Jordan. • H) Participation of the leader in the 2011 KAIIA rewarding ceremony. • I ) Different teachers and students were trained.
Future Direction • Leadership component will be implemented by the MOE Annually. • Will add a Monitoring and Evaluation component that will assess the long term impact of the leadership component on the participants.
