Main requirements & outline This document collects the wishes of CMS for what concerns the operation and maintenance of the CMS fluorocarbon cooling systems at P5 and TIF. CMS would like to have: A dedicated work package between CMS & EN/CV/DC, independent from other experiments. The cost shall be discussed on the base of the service provided and the spares needed for CMS. Limits of responsibility EN/CV/DC is in charge of the operation and maintenanceof all the systems designed by them (chiller, brine circuit, Preshower, Thermal Screen and TIF cooling plants) and all of the systems (Silicon Strip 1 & 2 and Pixels) for which an official acceptance protocol shall be signed between CMS and EN/CV/DC (done for Pixels plant). This protocol shall be commonly agreed before the signature of the maintenance and operation agreement. The physical limit of responsibility is placed, as in the previous agreement, at the exit of the C6F14 cabinets in UXC55, where copper pipes are laid to the detector, including all the shut-off and manual regulation valves on manifolds. Operation & fine tuning Two levels of access are required through the PLC touch panel (both password protected). Without password, the PLC touch panel can be used for monitoring purposes only. “Expert CMS user” “EN/CV/DC”: maintenance & operation The “Expert CMS user” actions will be accessible also through DCS, switching of the physical key on the PLC rack (additional 6 keys to be implemented). DCS will develop a “standard user” interface reducing the available actions and parameter ranges. All DCS actions will be traced. P. Tropea P. Tropea
CMS “expert user” “Expert CMS user” can, either through the PLC or DCS: read all parameters Read all set points and alarm thresholds (alarm thresholds: for the time being those values will be given on a spreadsheet, to be updated each time they are modified into the PLC program. By September 09 it will be possible to read them through DCS), change pressure and temperature set points within the agreed range (to be established at the end of commissioning with EN/CV/DC) Remotely operate cooling loops (on/off/lock) Remotely operate the manifold valves, on/off mode of single loops valves Operate the vacuum pump (this functionality has to be agreed for each cooling plant during commissioning) P. Maintenance EN/CV/DC organizes predictive and corrective maintenance following their standards and internal procedures (CAMMS, etc.). The maintenance plan major points shall be illustrated to CMS and agreed by both parties. All predictive maintenance activities shall be scheduled in common agreement weeks in advance and confirmed in writing few days before the intervention (both from CMS and EN/CV/DC side). As a CMS general traceability policy, CMS requires a written report (logbook or e-mail) after each intervention. A summary report shall be sent to CMS cooling coordinator every three months, including the full list of preventive and corrective maintenance interventions done and the possible extra cost associated (account details). In case of major problems and corrective maintenance operation disrupting the operation of the detector, the solution proposed shall be presented and agreed along with its implications by CMS P. Normal operation support and stand-by duty Interventions shall be guaranteed for corrective actions: • In 1 hour during working hours (8h30/17h30) and 24/7 during beam time or critical detector operation (defined by CMS) • in 2 hours during other time The stand-by duty personnel shall be able to: • Put the system in a safe state (for the detector & the plant) • Make a basic diagnostic of the problem and restart the system in case of minor failure • Contact an EN/CV/DC expert available on a “best effort basis” for major problems • Write a report at the end of his intervention (logbook) A CMS representative shall accompany the “piquet” when intervening in underground areas (2 men rule) In case of multiple requests received by the same piquet, CMS infrastructure manager shall be consulted to define priorities between sub-detectors or to find an agreement in case of different experiments requiring the same service P. Spare parts The list of strategic spare parts shall be approved together with the M&O agreement. This has to contain the number of spares already in hand and the list of purchases suggested for the short and long term. Consumables shall be well defined and listed, in particular to precisely define what is NOT part of consumables. Storage: a fenced area, locked, will be organized in P5 to store: • Any spare part not transportable by a sole person (pumps, motors, compressors) which are not common to any other experiment • Strategic parts and tools dedicated to the cooling systems • Clean fluids and tools for filling/draining P. Fluid management During the first 3 months of run of each cooling plant, an estimate of the leak rate per cooling plant will be done. This value will be used to assess the annual need of coolant for the following year. Any anomalous leak loss (detector disconnecting their cooling loops, maintenance activities, accidents, etc.) shall be justified and recorded on a common logbook. EN/CV/DC is responsible for the monitoring of the fluid levels, leak rates and fluorocarbon quality as well as for the related leak searches and repairs in due time up to the distribution valves on the manifold. Scheduling of leak search activities shall be mutually agreed whenever a derive of the leak rate is discovered. P. Tropea
