MIT Enterprise Forum of the Pan Arab Region • One of the 11 international chapters of the MIT Enterprise Forum Global with a prime objective to promote entrepreneurship in the Arab world • Main activity is to run the MITEF Arab Business Plan Competition • Currently running the 5th annual competition with record number of applications received last year: 3,800

  3. Conditions to Apply? • Eligibility Criteria: • Team composition:3 members or more with at least two Arab nationals on the team • The idea to be implemented in the Arab region • The idea could be in any sector: ICT; agriculture; healthcare; education etc…

  4. What it Takes to be a Winner? • The idea should match: • Innovation • Creativity; improvement of existing solutions; not necessarily technology • Scalability • Easily replicated regionally and globally as the company expands • Impact • Adds a certain positive impact to the community

  9. Structure of the Competition Round 1 • Filling an online form at www.mitarabcompetiton.comconsisting of 18 questions • Deadline for submissions January 10, 2012 Round 2 • Selection of top 30 applications • 30 teams fly in to Cairo for the entrepreneurship workshop

Structure of the Competition • Selection of the best 12 business plans • 12 teams fly to Beirut to run oral presentations in front of a final jury • Announcement of 3 winning teams: • - $50,000for the winner • - $10,000 for the 1st runner-up • - $5,000 for the 2nd runner-up • Other Benefits: Follow-up program w/ Aramex, help explore further funding opportunities, visibility at MITEF events, etc… Round 3

  11. Key Dates • September 29th: Launch Event in Abu Dhabi • January 10, 2012: Deadline for submitting online applications • February 14th: Announcement of 30 semi-finalist teams • March 16th and 17th: Entrepreneurship workshop in Cairo • June 21st: Final Awards Ceremony in Beirut Key Dates
