Eastern Woodlands. Tribe. A group of families bound together under a single leadership. 6 Tribes of Iroquois. The tribes were Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, and Mohawk. People believe that these tribes formed an Iroquois league. The Iroquois later added a sixth tribe the Tuscarora.

  2. Tribe • A group of families bound together under a single leadership

  3. 6 Tribes of Iroquois • The tribes were Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, and Mohawk. People believe that these tribes formed an Iroquois league. The Iroquois later added a sixth tribe the Tuscarora.

  4. League • An organization of people that unites people under a specific purpose.

  5. The Great Council • A group of 50 representatives a few from each tribe made all of the decisions for the league. The older women of the tribe could add or take away representatives.

  6. Iroquois Trail • A trail that linked all of the lands and made trade for Iroquois more convenient.

  7. Cultural Region • An area in which people with similar cultures live

  8. Resourceful woods • They hunted deer, bear, elk, and beaver for food and clothing. Lakes and rivers were used for water and fish. The fields were used to grow corn, beans, and squash. Wood from the forest for housing

  9. Longhouse • Housed up to 12 families. There was a central fire pit for cooking meals. Longhouses were about half the size of a football field with 150 being in each village.

  10. Iroquois beliefs and customs • Iroquois like many other Native American groups were close to the environment and animals.

  11. Reservations • There are about 50,000 Iroquois today living on reservations. A reservation is land set aside by the United States government for Native Americans.
